Totalpap Parade at the Whitstable Carnival 6th Aug 2022
After a two year break from the Carnival due to covid, we are back in the game and calling for volunteers to join us at the beach end of Pier Avenue, Tankerton, Whitstable at 4.30 pm . You will be furnished with a paper mâché outfit ready to join the parade at 5.30 pm.

THE SPORTSMAN EXHIBITION is up until the end of June 2021 And we are back in again in November /December 2021.
We have just been reinvited to put some Linocuts into a group show at the Horsebridge Gallery, Whitstable, Kent in January 2022.
This will be a large and interesting print show, well worth the visit. I will put more details up when I get them.

This lovely gallery in Wales has reopened to show our pieces in an exhibition which is running until June 2021.

The Sportsman Exhibition, Seasalter, Kent.
We are just waiting to hear if we can continue with the exhibition that we had to lockdown two days into the show, but its possible that we will have to take that down if they decide to continue from the exhibition calendar. They are opening for restaurant bookings in may so we should know soon.

CDA is opening for business in may so pictures will be available from there.
Whites Seafood, Hastings and Battle, Sussex
Hastings is open for outside bookings and both restaurants will be open in may for inside bookings. Pictures will be available then.
Seagulls and Flamingoes shop, Harbour st, Whitstable
The shop is open for business and is well stocked with Totalpap dogs and cats, Fish plaques and tea towels and more.

A look back at the year
Well what to say.
We started off the year hitting the ground running with some Lino cuts in a group show (details below) in the Horsebridge Gallery Whitstable, which was very successful and which we all hoped would be repeated the following year.
The other exciting work in the start of 2020 was working on the Kent College project in Canterbury.
We were booked to do two workshops with their younger pupils with the idea of them making small figures/likeness’s of their fellow classmates and painting them. They finished around thirty figures including the headmaster which we incorporated into a wide panoramic picture with a three dimensional model of the school set behind them, made by us . I don’t mind saying it looks fantastic and was a great fun collaborative project, many thanks to Kent College.
In conjuncture with the workshops we stepped outside our comfort zone and held a one hour talk on stage in their incredible, new all singing, all dancing Great Hall outlaying our journey as Totalpap and how we got here, illustrated with a slideshow and a small exhibition. Nerve-rackingly enjoyable and surprisingly quite a good turn out.
Two weeks later we were in lockdown as Coronovirus spread around the world.
It didn’t seem to effect our existence initially as we work from home and grow our own veg and were still receiving picture commissions which kept us busy through the initial lockdown. ( including piecing together the Kent College picture).
We were lucky enough to remain busy with private commissions, for which we are hugely thankful as, obviously, all of our shops and restaurant venues were customer limited or just shut down completely at other times.
In October we were commissioned to make a life size tree that we installed (adhering to covid regulations) in the Beaney Museum in Canterbury as part of a Rupert the Bear exhibition that has been put on hold for the moment.
The biggest let down in terms of work for us was the annual Sportsman Restaurant exhibition scheduled to run from November the 31st to January the 3rd at Seasalter, Whitstable.
This is normally a good selling exhibition for us in one of Britains top Michelin star restaurants and we had worked hard leading up to it to produce new pieces for some of the 80 pictures that we hang there .
Unfortunately two days after hanging, the Area went into Tier three, then tier 4 lockdown and we remain in tier 4 to date.
Fortunately we had a busy Christmas with the usual, and often, unusual Christmas commissions and I should add that for the past few years we have supplemented our income with some Christmas window jobs.
All in all, with the help of the SEISS Self Employment Grant and all the fabulous people who continue to enjoy our work we are surviving and open for business as usual .
So please don’t hesitate to contact us through the website email link if you would like to discuss any ideas for a Totalpap Commission no matter how peculiar. Nothing could be stranger than the times we are living in.

BIRMINGHAM SCIENCE MUSEUM
We have just sent a box of Automata up to Birmingham science museum as part of their
MECHANICAL THINGS EXHIBITION
1st dec – 5th march 2017 entrance free
Curious minds of all ages are invited to step inside the whimsical and wonderful world of inventions by eccentric English inventor Rowland Emett, as Thinktank hosts some of his most significant works, including the original Chitty Chitty Bang Bang car.
As part of the playful exhibition, visitors will be able to enjoy interactive kinetic art and exhibits from the MAD Museum (Mechanical Art and Design) in Stratford upon Avon and Cabaret Mechanical Theatre Collection.
Magical machines from other artists, many of whom were influenced by Rowland Emett’s automata style, will be on display too, showcasing the amazing legacy of this true British icon.
Alongside Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, the centrepiece of the magical exhibition will be A Quiet Afternoon in the Cloud Cuckoo Valley which is Rowland Emett’s last and largest machine.
