About Us

Totalpap was formed in 1990 by Emily Firmin and Justin Mitchell.

Emily trained at Canterbury and at Central St Martins and comes from the prolific Firmin dynasty. (Please look at links on the contacts page). Justin received an ungraded for his art O level…. but isn’t bitter at all.

We started selling at Camden market and were soon visited by the wonderfully enthusiastic landlord and lady of the The Kings of Clerkenwell who informed us that they had removed all their pictures and wanted us to hang ours up. It became known as the papiermache pub.

We moved to Whitstable in 1993.

In 1995 we were honoured to have Royal Mail commission us to create a stamp for a set of ‘Greetings Stamps’ from which our image was used for the promotional material.

A relatively new direction for us are the limited edition linocuts and hand printed cards printed on our 1869 Albion press. We occasionally get involved with larger projects but a lot of our time is spent working on specific private commissions and new ideas for exhibitions and the current outlets.
